Executive remuneration - not necessarily a media crisis

Research shows that media link reumuneration with assesment of management qualities

Media's focus on executive remuneration is not new, but Media Tenor's research indicates that the volume of coverage is increasing, not only internationally, but particularly in South African media. Lately, Business Report undertook a detailed analysis of the value of CEO payments compared to company performance.

Media Tenor's research into the issue of executive remuneration in leading SA media over the past three years reveals interesting strategic patterns: clearly, some companies managed to get favourable coverage despite their company's financial performance being not extraordinary. On the other hand, some companies with favourable business performance received very negative publicity on their top management's remuneration. The analysis also showed that negative publicity on the CEO's remuneration lead to increased questions on the competence and personality of management. Taking into account, that 10% of corporate coverage in the media focuses on management and executives, this is certainly a trend worth monitoring in future.

Media Tenor's research also showed which issues were connected to a positive coverage on executive remunerations and which are better to be avoided.
